Water Damage Repair and Restoration: Inspection and Damage Assessment

1/22/2020 (Permalink)

Man monitoring moisture. Monitoring how far moisture has spread.

There are six steps that SERVPRO of San Diego East takes in order to restore water damage loss. The steps are: emergency contact, inspection and damage assessment, water removal or water extraction, drying and dehumidification, cleaning and repair, and finally restoration. Today we are going to focus on the second step.

The second step of water damage restoration is inspection and damage assessment. This is when SERVPRO of San Diego East goes to your home and begins to inspect your home or property. At this point the crew establishes a plan.

The SERVPRO of San Diego East crew will check for the source of water, and will be stopped before beginning the third step. Main things are to stop the source and check for contaminated water.

Once the source of water has been determined the next step is to identify the water category. Water categories are important because this will determine the contamination levels and how the restoration process will be executed.

  • Category 1: Clean Water
  • Category 2: Gray Water
  • Category 3: Black Water

*To learn more about categories or water go to this page.

Then we inspect the extent of damage and how far the moisture has spread. This is also when we test your home or property checked for asbestos. One of our last processes if necessary is to pack out a home or property if your items are in danger of further damage. Go here to learn about our packing out process.
