How to Use a Fire Extinguisher
Regardless of how long a fire has been going it will always be damaging to a home or property. It is important to learn how to use a fire extinguisher in order to prevent a fire from becoming larger. The standard for doing this is known as PASS which stands for Pull, Aim, Squeeze, and Sweep.
Pull the pin: depending on the model you might need to remove a locking pin on the handle or lever. Some models may even have a button.
Aim low: direct the hose nozzle at the base of the fire. If you aim at the flames the fluid will be ineffective.
Squeeze the lever: squeeze the lever above the handle to discharge the extinguishing agent. Some models may have a button and not a lever.
Sweep the nozzle: make sure to sweep the hose from side to side at the base of the fire. Repeat sweeping from side to side until the fire is completely out.
Make sure you learn how to use your specific extinguisher. Once the fire has gone down give us a call in order to begin the fire remediation process.
