What is a class B Contractor License?

We are proud to say that SERVPRO of San Diego East has acquired a class B contractor license. A class B contractor license will allow our production team to construct and demolish areas of a building structure (as high as five levels) in need of water remediation and restoration.

How will this benefit our customers?

Having the class B license will benefit our customers in various ways. First, our customers will not need to have to hire another company to demolish and construct parts of their home. There are already so many companies involved in a water damage loss this will make it easier to communicate within. Since SERVPRO monitors the surface we will also be able to gauge well the area that will need to be restored and this will reduce any possible error.

SERVPRO of San Diego East is not only upholding CDC recommendations, but as well as upholding our family franchise standards. We are making sure to keep our equipment cleaned, and daily check the health of our employees. Since SERVPRO of San Diego East is a company that services residents and commercial businesses it is important for us to place high standard measures in order to keep our customers safe.

Typically the most frequently used equipment is the air scrubber and the dehumidifier. The equipment is brought into a home or commercial property during a water or fire loss. We are making sure to clean and disinfect every equipment before leaving our facilities as well as before entering back into our facilities. We know how important it is for our customers to make sure everything we bring into their properties is disinfected.

Another way we are making sure to keep our customers safe is by checking in daily with our employees. Every morning we are taking the temperature of our employees to make sure they are not sick. We are asking our employees who are under the weather to not come into work. We highly encourage our employees who are not feeling well to take a test before coming back to work. Regardless we are pleased to say that so far none of our employees have had COVID-19 and are remaining safe distances.

What is a contents manipulation?

A content manipulation is either packing or moving back your items after a major loss such as water or fire damage in order to quicken the remediation process.

A pack-out is the moving of customer’s contents to a secured storage location. Here at SERVPRO of San Diego East we have multiple storage options: one being at our warehouse located at 6344 Riverdale St, San Diego, CA, the other is storing with mi-box either at our location or at the customer’s residence, and finally we have the option of storing items in the customer’s garage.

There are certain items that we do not pack-out; these tend to be high value items such as jewelry, family heirlooms, or other items requested by the homeowner. We do not pack-out liquids due to the possibility of spills.

Once remediation is complete we then pack-back your items to their original spots.

It is important to us that our customers know the steps SERVPRO of San Diego East is taking to reduce the risk of team member exposure to the virus.  These precautionary steps we have taken as a company include:

  • All tools and equipment coming into your property have been cleaned and disinfected.
  • All workers wear personal protective equipment to protect themselves while performing work.
  • We’ve all been provided with training to safely work in contaminated environments.
  • We’ve all been provided with training to identify coronavirus symptoms and carefully monitor ourselves and our co-workers.
  • We have stringent safety and health policies and procedures; and we continually strive to follow and improve our safe work practices.

Overall, we are taking the appropriate measures to ensure we don’t cross contaminate our customers, our co-workers, or our families.  We cannot make any guarantees that the virus could not enter your property, but we can tell you that we have taken every possible measure to protect customers and team members alike.

How do you find the best flood restoration company? Finding the right flood restoration company can be overwhelming, there are so many home restoration companies that are listed on Yelp and Google. Picking one seems to be the problem, there are a couple ways you can simplify your choice.

Note that a list of “Best Flood Restoration Companies in…” posted in Yelp or any other website may not be the most reliable. Sometimes companies pay to be on those lists rather than earning the ratings through their customers. There are different factors that can help you pick the right company for you.

Here are somethings to consider:

-Are you paying out of pocket or do you have home or property insurance?

-What type of water loss has occurred? Washer spill, ground water, toilet overflow, sewage backup, etc.

Knowing those factors will also depend on who you call. If you have home or property insurance it is best to call your insurance representative as they have a list of reliable companies that specialize in your loss. Even though insurance companies have great flood restoration companies on file make sure to do your own research on companies provided to you. 

It is always best to search for keywords such as: “water damage loss,” “flood restoration,” “water restoration,” etc. Once you type some of these keywords a list of multiple businesses will show up. Click on companies that have 3.5 rating or higher. The reason not to vet out 3.5 ratings is because reviews have been written many years ago - staff and management may have changed. Now if companies with low ratings continue to have bad reviews within 2 years it’s best not to go with those companies.

This week SERVPRO of San Diego East put their employees to the test. We had a learning moment not only for the production team who are always in the field restoring water damage repairs. But also for our office personnel. Our Estimator and Project Manager, Sean Foley took some time before our WIP meeting to teach us about drafting floor plans.

You might be wondering what the importance of floor plans are? They are important one for the restoration process and secondly and most importantly for our customers and insurance adjusters is the estimated cost of water or fire repairs. 

Floor plans help our office personnel understand the damaged areas within a home or property. This also helps our office file coordinators better communicate with our customers. Drafting an initial floor plan is an exceptionally great tool for our production crew. Having a floor plan will help us organize equipment within a home or property. It also helps us track the affected areas within a home or property.

Floor plans also help our estimator and project manager define the cost of a water or fire loss job. This will help our estimator gauge a price for our customer.

Water damage happens in many forms. It comes in through floods, tremendous amounts of rain, and even the unfortunate circumstance - through toilets or sinks. Regardless of how the waterflow comes in the situations are similar in our human reaction. There's lots of water left on the floor, you are heightened with stress, you can’t think straight, you have millions of thoughts crossing your mind. You’ve heard about these situations before. It’s happened to your neighbors, family and friends. But you never thought it would actually happen to you. So what do you do when the water strikes? You strike back. Here are some steps to take to when water damage has entered your property.

  • Wear the proper equipment, (have rubber boots and gloves)
  • Shut off the water supply to your home
  • Water and electricity don’t mix, don’t forget to shut off the electric supply as well
  • Unplug all of your electronics and move them away from the effected area
  • Lay down towels to soak up water from spreading
  • Call SERVPRO of San Diego East to restore the damage and dry up the area completely and thoroughly

On September 11, 2001 the hijacking of American Airlines Flight 77 hit the Pentagon damaging the first floor and the parking lot. There were many losses and emotions that day – SERVPRO Franchise Professionals was asked to help clean and restore the first floor. Within 90 days SERVPRO was able to complete the restoration process that involved dried 300,000 square feet of water and fire damage.

This particular morning, SERVPRO of San Diego East's owner decided we should bless our surrounding neighbors by cleaning the dumpsters and the surrounding areas.  

Our office and production team rallied together to make sure that we cleaned properly. It was a great way to start the day and prepare.
